PENNSBURY:
Falcons claw Tigers
In the first Suburban One National conference game for both teams this season, Pennsbury scored early and often, cruising to a 16-1 victory March 25 at home over the Truman Tigers.
The Falcons were paced by midfielder Shawn Caven (4 goals, 0 assists) and attackman Peter Sweetland (3 goals, 3 assists) as Pennsbury showed quick ball movement and off-ball motion.
Other contributors for Pennsbury included attackman Kenneth Warren (1 goal, 3 assists), midfielder Ricky Jutkeiwicz (1 goal, 2 assists), attackman Calvin Hopkins (2 goals, 2 assists), and midfielder Tim Considine (1 goal, 0 assists).
Freshman middie Luke Matthews also got his first varsity goal and contributed with solid defensive play.
With the outcome well in hand at the half (the score was 13-0), the game went to a running clock and the Falcons reached into their bench to finish out. Attackman Dan Caggia put up a goal and an assist, with freshman middie Lewis Sears assisting on Caggia's goal.
Justin Merola netted his first goal of the season at attack, and middie Pat “Moose” Bonnot scored his first points of the season on an unassisted goal where he caused a turnover at the mid-line stripe and beat the defense to the crease.
Pennsbury goalie David Cutler was solid in the net with 4 saves but was also involved in a controversial play that resulted in Truman's only score of the day. Truman attackman Carra stripped the ball away from Cutler scooped it up in the crease and put it into the empty net, denying the Falcon netminder the shutout.
The Pennsbury defense was solid and the offense held the ball for long periods of time, including the last two minutes of the game to run out the clock and seal the victory.
The victory over the Tigers pushed the Falcons to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Suburban One National Conference. Truman is still winless at 0-2.
