CVC alums making their mark in NFL
Special to The Post
Last Thursday turned out to be a milestone night for both Colonial Valley Conference graduates trying to make it into the NFL as rookies.
While Notre Dame High and Rutgers grad Tiquan Underwood averaged 20 yards on four kick returns in Jacksonville’s 33-32 loss at the Eagles, ex-Lawrence High star John Nalbone made his first reception of the preseason for Miami in a 10-6 win at Tampa Bay.
Tight end Nalbone, who had a record-setting career at Monmouth and was the Dolphins’ fifth pick in last April’s NFL Draft, caught a 3-yard pass from Chad Henne with 4:44 to play.
It came as the Dolphins were trying to preserve a lead they got earlier in the second half when another Jersey tight end--veteran Anthony Fasano from Verona--caught a 2-yard TD toss from Chad Pennington to put Miami ahead, 10-6.
Nalbone has appeared in all three Dolphins preseason games, but had no passes thrown his way until Aug. 27.
